The current work is a
direct response to observations
and discoveries of nature recorded through the medium
of photography, which provides permanent imagery with
which to work.
The paintings are produced with the aim of challenging
the viewer into accepting unaccustomed views of nature
and appreciating it in a way that would not have been
considered before.
The size of the paintings and the
'upfrontness' of the subject confronts the viewer, and
with the extra charge of colour the image is
encouraged
to turn into something from the imagination.
These
unfamiliar shapes are recorded against deep backgrounds
with the intention of introducing an element of
seduction.
The enthusiasm for this subject matter can best be
described
by a quote from Karl Blossfeldt, 'The plant never lapses
into
mere functionalism, it fashions and shapes according to
logic and suitability, and with its primeval force
couples
everything to attain the highest artist form'. |
