Patrick Villas

Patrick Villas was born in Antwerp in 1961 where he lives and works. In 1985 he became a full time artist and his work has been exhibited throughout Belgium and Europe.
Visits to Antwerp Zoo inspired the young Villas to observe and draw the animals and from his studies he started to work on his early sculptures. His personal style catches all the nuances of the different animals, both their movement and differing skin textures of fur, feather and rough skin. the power of the cheeta ready to attack muscles tense under the surface of the fur, to the whimsical expressions of the monkey and accentuation of the elegance of the horse exhibit Villas's connection between the sculptorand the animal. Patina and moulding blend to create movement, tension and energy.
The animal park Planckendael, near Mechelen and the zoo of Palmyre, in Royan (France) give added inspiration to an artist who spends hours observing and drawing the animals and their anatomical characteristics.
Villas's works are included in many collections throughout Europe and he has received many commissions including the life size Jaguar he created for the Royal museum of Zoology, Antwerp.

Pieter Vanden Daele

Pieter Vanden Daele was born in Oudenaarde in 1971 where he lives and works. His bronze sculptures of different fish species are now exhibited all over Europe.
The river Scheldt and numerous ponds provide an ideal fishing area around his native town. His friends were passionate anglers and from an early age on, Pieter  found himself  fascinated by the underwater world and its amazing fauna. being of a creative nature, he went to the academy of Ounenaarde where he attended painting classes. In 2000 he started working in the art foundry casting Belgium foundry art casting Belgium (Oudenaarde) as a teaching practise, where he learned the process of moulding the pieces, making wax sculptures, bronze casting, polishing and patinating.
A few years ago, his passions were joined together as he began creating bronze sculptures of different fish, mostly carps. He sculpts his original model out of organic materials such as leafs, wood, leather and many other things. This results in the rough though elaborated surface of his pieces. Thus beautifully rendering the actual skin of the fish. His fish are alive, captured for eternity, just as nature captured prehistoric fish in fossils.
