Lewis
Noble is well recognised for his abstracted landscapes of the
Peak District, Scotland and France. The paintings are filled with emotion, light and colour and
have great force and energy.
Noble’s
technique involves ‘…building layer after layer, often
scraping back in order to re-work the subject, resulting in an
impasto scrumbled surface.
The technique is evidence of a vigorous process, and
reflects the physical nature of the landscape itself’
Chloe Johnson, Tate Gallery
