Brόer Tidman frequently
explores the complexities of the Artist/Model relationship and
the contemplations of the lover/muse theme. We are presented
with sharply juxtaposed characters which have come together to
share an encounter. One of the pair may be portrayed as a
distinct, rounded and fulfilled being, the other being painted
in a markedly contrasting, surreal and abstracted style,
indicating perhaps a dominant or superior partner in the
coupling, or one deemed worthy of adulation, with the other
being more passive, submissive or receptive signifying the
duality of life. Sometimes one can detect another presence
perhaps a spirit, a shadow, a voyeur, an alter ego the
exact representation being something for the artist to know,
and for the viewer to speculate. But this is the Tidman
trademark through and through open-ended questions and
indefinite answers. |
