Lee Madgwick
In most of my work I hope to achieve a looming presence. With an element of mystery and suspense (and a hint of foreboding), the stillness of the 'scene' consequently brings an emotive feeling to the fore. I find beauty in dereliction and abandonment. I tend to go off the beaten track to specifically search for the 'run-down'. I see enormous potential, often dreaming up ideas of how these undesirable places could look. But it's also the fragility of our existence these buildings tend to emphasize which fascinates me most. Britain – especially my home county of Norfolk – is a hotbed of inspiration, both urban and rural. I hope to achieve a sense of drama in my work. Presenting a familiar image yet placing it in an intimate and moody setting. A narrative is very important – but intentionally never fully explained. I like to leave it for the viewer to come up with their own interpretation.
